Thousands of workers may be laid off in the country’s capital should the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) be extended further, the city mayor said.
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso made this statement after confirming that he voted in favor of the implementation of the general community quarantine in the city during the Metro Manila Council’s meeting on May 9.
“Companies cannot afford to exist without income, without production. That is a fact. We cannot afford that, we want to help them,” he added. President Duterte is expected to address the public today, May 11, after a meeting with the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases , where the recommendations on the community quarantines will be decided upon.
Latest data from the city government showed that 4,033 polymerase chain reaction tests have been administered to residents suspected of having the coronavirus disease-2019 as of May 9.
