West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. said Tuesday it is planning to spend around P22 billion to construct seven new water treatment plants in the next five years.

In a statement, Maynilad said the planned water treatment plants will add more than 545 million liters per day of water supply for distribution to customers, which in turn would help in reducing service interruptions.

“By increasing our water production, we can better close the gap between available supply and the growing demand. This, along with sustained upgrades of our water infrastructure, will allow us to increase pressure in the pipe network and ultimately reduce service disruptions,” said Maynilad chief operating officer Randolph Estrellado.

The new water treatment plants also form part of Maynilad’s P219.8-billion total spending plan for 2023 to 2027.
