Matthew Guy has launched a stinging attack on senior Victorian Liberals, calling on the ‘juvenile’ state president to resign for his post-election report.
In response to Guy’s criticisms, Mirabella’s only reply was to say: “QED.”, meaning which was to be demonstrated. It is used at the end of mathematical and philosophical texts to indicate the author’s argument has been proven.
At an administrative committee meeting in December, Newbury opposed Mirabella’s motion to not conduct a formal review, saying he believed private reviews “would not be founded in truth, and feared it could be hijacked by self-serving politics and factionalism”.In his email to colleagues, the Brighton MP said Mirabella did not speak to senior campaign officials or state MPs before arriving at his conclusion.
He said the party had failed to appeal to the growing cohort of young voters, and ensure moderate Liberals voting for the teals were preferencing the Liberal Party ahead of Labor. Newbury said the party should learn from Labor’s success at holding onto a “de-facto coalition through militant preferencing” when progressive Labor voters shifted to the Greens.

Liberals need to understand that the Voice is a ‘deal-breaker’ for many Coalition votersThe Liberal Party needs to understand that the issue of the Voice to Parliament is a “deal-breaker” for many Coalition voters, according to Sky News host Rita Panahi. Ms Panahi’s remarks come after it was revealed that rank-and-file members of the Northern Territory’s Country Liberal Party are urging the party to officially oppose the Voice. Sky News Australia obtained motions drafted by three of the party’s branches - Darwin, Alice Springs and Rural branches – for debate at this weekend’s central council meeting, which argues CLP should adopt a formal position opposing the Voice. “If the Coalition mounts a fact-based, rational campaign, they will win the debate, and the referendum will fail,” Ms Panahi said. “If they support it or run dead, then it has every chance of succeeding. “Either the Liberals take a principled stand, or they’ll see their support base fractured further.”
