Will she play, or won't she? 🤔
All eyes will be on Sam Kerr's status for the Canada game. When asked about his skipper's health following the loss to Nigeria, Matidas coach Tony Gustavsson was coy, saying she would be a game-time decision.
"We're going to have a meeting tonight with the medical team and Sam and discuss what the possibility is for her to play [against Canada]. Then we're going to do some tests [on Monday] to see what it looks like." "So there's a lot on the table to discuss and we probably won't know how exactly we're going to use that until we come into the stadium."Australia's lack of a focal point up front in its opening two group games highlighted the integral role Kerr plays within Gustavsson's system and exposed the squad's deficiency of legitimate striker alternatives - or downright refusal to deploy them.
Emily van Egmond celebrates with substitute Sam Kerr and the rest of the Matildas squad after scoring the opening goal of Australia's match against Nigeria. "The players [also] know potential plans for the starting or the finishing line-up ... and have been informed."
