The 55+ BC Games Society Zone 9 has sponsored Prince George Track & Field Club’s Spruce Capital Meet to support Masters athletes competing on June 17 at Masich Place Stadium.

The 55+ BC Games Society Zone 9 has sponsored the Prince George Track & Field Club’s Spruce Capital Meet to support Masters athletes who will strive for excellence on their home turf on June 17 at Masich Place Stadium.

Zone 9 will invest more than $5,000 into the Track & Field masters athletes in Zone 9 as the track club hosts a Throws Pentathlon for the first time in their history. All masters athletes are welcome to compete. Part of the sponsorship is to support the 55+ athletes by funding their participation in the meet. The 55+ BC Games Society’s Zone 9 is also sponsoring a set of weight throws for training and competition purposes and the cost of bringing BC officials from the Lower Mainland who will oversee the event so that when world, national and BC records are broken they will be acknowledged on a global scale.

“Being able to contribute to an event that brings our athletes together where they are able to develop those bonds as they train, compete together as a group and then head down to the 55+ BC Games in Abbotsford in August is a great team building opportunity for all levels and I look forward to seeing Zone 9 continue to be a dominant force at the provincial competition,” Ron Gallo, Zone 9 director for the 55+ BC Games Society, said.

“Prince George Track and Field is extremely grateful for the support of the 55+ Games Society Zone 9,” Elena Thomas, president of the club, said. “This funding will be used to ensure that all our Masters will continue their training and successfully compete right here in Prince George. These amazing athletes needed support and the 55+ Games Society Zone 9 came to the rescue!”
