‘Massacre in slow motion’: Federal MP backs calls to stop north shore road project | smh_andrew

North Sydney Independent MP Kylea Tink has backed calls for work to be halted on a controversial freeway upgrade, amid ongoing community anger over the loss of hundreds of trees on Sydney’s north shore.

Rally organiser Kel Cowling said residents were angry about the cutting down of hundreds of trees for a freeway upgrade “which no one wants”. North Sydney Council last month voted to request the NSW government delay entering contracts for the freeway upgrade, tunnel or Northern Beaches Link project before the 2023 state election.

Baker said the trees provided a sound barrier from traffic noise on the Warringah Freeway, which was now lost. James said the freeway upgrade and Western Harbour tunnel will improve travel times, road safety and local amenity although “improvements can be made to these projects”.
