A woman who filmed herself arguing with the police after she verbally abused a hospital staff member was sentenced to five weeks and five days’ jail and fined S$600 on Wednesday.

PUTRAJAYA: Registrations of marriage carried out at the National Registration Department are done based on civil laws and do not involve any religious or cultural rituals. It said the agency was responsible for registering civil marriages and recording information on marriages and divorces of non-Muslims.

The explanation came after a video showing Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail registering the civil wedding of a non-Muslim couple went viral. The event was held earlier yesterday in conjunction with the NRD’s 75th anniversary, and the registration of two civil marriages was part of the programme.
