Defence Minister Richard Marles has delivered a grim warning over the deteriorating global strategic environment as he flags a record military build-up in Australia.

Mr Marles said possible acquisitions flagged in the DSR along with the acquisition of AUKUS submarines would see Australia’s investment in military assets and defence hit record levels.
