What was obvious was his strength in the restart part of the game.
That said, none of this has come easily. It takes a unique and robust player to make the switch from 15s to Sevens. The two formats demand different things from the body and many of the lessons hard-coded into you from a young age do not apply in the shorter, faster format. The training demands are also quite different. You’re basically doing a pre-season between each tournament given the way the international sevens calendar is structured. And there is much more focus on top-end speed and the ability to repeat it.You’re always working at that upper threshold, short quick bursts of play, and there are no passages where you can just hang out on an edge. In sevens, you’re always involved.If you’re not fast, forget about making a sevens switch.
The speed combination of Marky Mark and Corey Toole make Australia a genuine gold medal threat at these Games, while the French will be up there as well, with recent form and hometown support on their side.
