For years, the liberation of Biñan, Laguna from Japanese forces has been commemorated every February 5. However, historical records and veteran accounts point to February 3, 1945, as the correct date of liberation. This was validated by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines in 2016 after a requested review from the Biñan City Culture, History, Arts and Tourism Office . On February 3, 1945, the Hunters ROTC Guerrillas succeeded in driving out the Japanese soldiers occupying the town. This day marked the end of almost three years of Japanese occupation, during which Biñan, like many towns in the Philippines, endured hardships, including forced labor, food shortages, and atrocities. The shift in the commemorative date is important not only for historical accuracy but also for honoring the sacrifices of those who fought and suffered during this period.
