Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro's name will remain on the ballot for congressman despite being disqualified by the Comelec's 1st Division. The Comelec en banc must issue a final ruling to officially remove him from the ballot.
MANILA, Philippines — Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro's name will remain on the ballot as a candidate for congressman in the city's First District, despite his disqualification by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) 1st Division.Comelec Chairman George Garcia clarified that Teodoro's candidacy has not been officially revoked as the Comelec en banc has yet to issue a final ruling on his motion for reconsideration.
The commission's en banc body must make a decision with a certificate of finality to remove a candidate from the ballot.Garcia's statement comes as the Comelec commenced the printing of ballots on Monday for the upcoming May elections. He reiterated that until a final decision is made, Teodoro's candidacy remains valid. The Comelec chairman also noted that the en banc could potentially overturn the 1st Division's disqualification ruling if Teodoro presents compelling new arguments or evidence in his motion for reconsideration.'After presenting arguments in the motion for reconsideration, there may still be instances where a reversal can happen,' Garcia said. The Comelec First Division cancelled the certificate of candidacy of Mayor Teodoro after he supposedly committed material misrepresentation in his certificate of candidacy (COC) for the 2025 national and local elections (NLE) as regards his residency in Barangay San Roque in the first district
