Breaking: Professor Margaret Gardner, the Vice-Chancellor of Monash University, is set to become the 30th Governor of Victoria. springst
Premier Daniel Andrews announced the appointment on Monday alongside Gardner, who has held her position at Monash since 2014.
She recently chaired the Group of Eight Universities, where she remains a director, and was vice-chancellor of RMIT for nine years.Gardner, made a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2020, has served on the board of Infrastructure Victoria, Museums Victoria and the New Zealand School of Government .Lieutenant Governor Professor James Angus will serve as acting governor in the interim.Gardner said she hoped to encourage respect for the differences in the Victorian community.
