The urban development of the Pasig River focusing on functional improvement and revitalization of the area is targeted to be completed in three years, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said on Sunday.
In a speech during the inauguration of the Phase 1C of the Pasig River Urban Development Project , Marcos said the project is set to make the Pasig River “look and feel” like famous waterways such as the Seine in Paris and the Thames in London.“Rest assured that apart from our enthusiasm and optimism, the First Lady and I will provide our all-out support and commitment to the completion of this project, and hopefully in three years’ time, that will be our goal,” he said.His speech came after the completion of a 500-meter showcase area of the PRUDP’s Manila Old Downtown Segment, with a 250-meter development connecting the existing esplanade from the Jones Bridge to Plaza Mexico and Fort Santiago in Intramuros.Phase 1C involves functional development, which includes pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, commercial zones, and green spaces. It also covers leasable stalls, walkways, bike lands, and a boardwalk.The project’s structures are targeted to use renewable energy, and promote ecological practices aligned with environmental protection and conservation strategies.“Bringing the Pasig River back to life mirrors our ongoing journey towards a brighter future for our country. How well we do here will reflect our efforts in other areas of the country and how successful we are at improving and leaving the country a better place than we found it,” Marcos said.Marcos and his wife, First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos led the inauguration of the 500-meter showcase area in January, part of a multi-agency urban renewal project spearheaded by the Inter-Agency Council for the Pasig River Urban Development. — BM, GMA Integrated News
