MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will meet with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet next week to discuss a range of issues, including defense, trade, tourism, regional and multilateral cooperation between Manila and Phnom Penh, Malacañang said.
Hun Manet and his wife, First Lady Chanmony HunManet, will be in Manila on February 10 and 11 for the Cambodian leader's first official visit, aimed at elevating bilateral relations between the Philippines and Cambodia. \In a statement, Malacañang said that Marcos would hold a bilateral meeting with Hun Manet in Malacañang on February 11. 'President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will welcome H.E. Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, on his first Official Visit to the Philippines on 10-11 February 2025,' the Palace said. The two leaders are expected to discuss 'advancing cooperation in combating transnational crimes, defense, trade, tourism, regional and multilateral cooperation,' it added. Their tete-a-tete, bilateral meeting, and joint press conference will be followed by an official luncheon at Malacanang in honor of the Cambodian Prime Minister and his First Lady. \Hun Manet's visit to Manila will come almost two months after King Sihamoni of Cambodia pardoned 13 Filipino surrogate mothers who were convicted of human trafficking. The 13 women were among 20 Filipinos arrested in Kandal province in Cambodia in September 2024 for their alleged involvement in surrogacy, which is illegal in Cambodia. Following the repatriation of the 13 women in December last year, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) thanked the Cambodian government, headed by Hun Manet, for the 'humanitarian treatment extended to the Filipino mothers throughout the investigative and judicial processes. The DFA added that the safe return of the Filipino women attested to the 'long-standing friendly relations' between the Philippines and Cambodia. To date, there are over 7,000 Filipinos currently residing and working in Cambodia
