President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. has reorganized the National Security Council (NSC), removing the Vice President and former presidents from its membership. This means there are no longer any Dutertes included in the NSC. Executive Order (EO) 81, signed by Marcos on December 30, states the need to revise NSC members to ensure the council “uphold and protect national security and sovereignty, thereby fostering an environment conducive to effective governance and stability.” Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin explained that the Vice President was removed from the council because “at the moment, the VP is not considered relevant to the responsibilities of membership in the NSC.”
