‘All it came down to was a lot of hard work’

When Michelle Jones-Ruppel was cast into a leadership role, she had a number things going against her.

“It came down to learning, hard work, perseverance, and a drive to succeed,” she reflects on those first steps on her unique path to leadership. “And to show everybody that a woman can be in a role that is otherwise very male dominated.” “That only fired me up,” she says of the naysayers. “I wanted to prove myself to everyone and all it came down to was a lot of hard work. A lot of hours at the dealership. Showing them that I just wasn’t a woman in the business given an opportunity, but rather I was a woman in the business that knew what she was doing, yet given an opportunity.

She’s also finding much of the advice and counsel she gives to her managers isn’t that much different when it comes to providing her children with guidance.
