“He’s around the facility,” coach Sheldon Keefe said before the Leafs home opener Thursday vs. the Capitals. “It’s really nice to have him. We wanted him to be a part of things and having some experiences with our with our team.” Amirov was a standout on Russia’s world junior team and senior national team in 2021 and seemed on track to at least have joined the Toronto Marlies by now, until the tumour was diagnosed. Amirov has not spoken since coming to Toronto. A devout Christian, Amirov spoke to Russian newspaper Sports Express earlier about his health.
