Many Filipinos chose to spend their holiday break enjoying the tranquility of Manila's parks and open spaces, departing from the usual crowds seen at popular travel destinations.
In contrast to popular travel destinations all over the Philippines, many people enjoyed the holiday break with a leisurely stroll in Manila ’s parks and open public spaces.According to a 24 Oras report by Mav Gonzales on Tuesday, the usual crowds were absent at the Luneta Park on Tuesday, the last day of 2024.Visitors, some of whom came from the provinces, were able to take solo pictures at the displays and sights at the Rizal Monument at their leisure.“Galing pa akong Buscalan.
Nag-La Union, tapos nag-side trip dito before going back to Cebu. Maganda pala dito. Rich in history talaga, culture ng Pilipinas,” said a visitor.(I came from Buscalan. I went to La Union, and took a side trip here before going back to Cebu. It’s beautiful here. It’s really rich in history, the Philippine culture.)“Masaya naman. Picture-picture lang kami dun banda kay Rizal,” added another visitor.(It’s fun. We just took pictures over there by the Rizal Monument.)At the Arroceros Rainforest Park near the Manila City Hall, visitors were able to quietly commune with nature and the Pasig River for free.“Gusto ko mag-relax. Mag-isip for the next year,” said a passing visitor.(I want to relax. Think about next year.)The park, also known as “Manila’s Last Lung”, features a fountain, meditation area, a koi pond, and picture-perfect walkways for visitors to visit from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.Just outside Arroceros is another park with a fountain and a view of the Metropolitan Theater that is always open to the public. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/RF, GMA Integrated New
