AFTER announcing an immediate ban on electric bikes in Mandaue City , the traffic agency backtracked, saying it would conduct its operation against e-bikes next week.However, the implementation of the e-bike ban has encountered a roadblock. Mayor Glenn Bercede, on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, said the City would review the policy to balance public safety , convenience and the interests of the e-bike community.

Retuya added that unlike tricycles, which are prohibited on national highways despite being registered with the Land Transportation Office and operated by licensed drivers, many e-bikes remain unregulated.Careful considerationBercede emphasized the need for careful consideration before implementing the ban.“We need to meet and carefully consider if banning e-bikes is truly necessary. While we acknowledge the traffic concerns, we must also consider the livelihood of e-bike users,” he said.
