A 21-year-old man was arrested on July 1 for causing death by rash act after the body of another man, 33, was found in the Singapore River at Clarke Quay.

The police said they received a call for assistance after a man had fallen into the waters of Singapore River on June 30 at 10.15pm.

Divers from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team of the Singapore Civil Defence Force were deployed to perform an underwater search.One TikToker said in the comments of her video that the two men were fighting and one pushed the other into the river.The body of the 33-year-old man was subsequently retrieved from the waters and pronounced dead at the scene.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras and CCTVs, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, Central Police Division and Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the other man and arrested him. He will be charged in court on July 2 for causing death by rash act, which is punishable with an imprisonment term of up to five years, a fine or both.
