Diogo Dalot steamed down the wing and flashed a precise cross to the far post for the Scot to tap in his 10Belatedly, the boys in blue began to play. Just before half-time they created a replica of the move that had undone them at the other end, only this time a covering defender got the decisive touch with Dalot sliding in to deny Wright.
A game that United had sewn up then unravelled at the seams. Fabio Tavares’ introduction off the bench gave Coventry fresh impetus and his intelligent cross into the box was smartly swept into the bottom corner by Simms on the half-volley. The underside of the bar in front of the United fans took a battering: Fernandes hit it at the start of first-half and Simms did likewise at the end of the second.
