Sharron Prior went missing in 1975 while on her way to a restaurant in Pointe\u002DSt\u002DCharles. Her body was found in Longueuil a few days later.

“We can speculate all day on it, but we won’t know the answer until we open the grave to see the remains,” Racicot told the court. In 2004, Longueuil police searched a garage in Pointe-St-Charles and said they were trying to find traces of DNA, but nothing appeared to come from the search. In 2012, a $10,000 reward was offered by Sun Youth for any tips leading to the arrest and prosecution of a suspect, but no arrests were made.

The lab found genetic DNA profiles that matched on two items of Prior’s clothing that had been removed and were found near her body. They also found the same DNA profile on a men’s t-shirt used to tie the girl’s hands behind her back. On Nov. 30, 2022, Longueuil police received files that revealed Romine had “an extensive criminal record” in the U.S.

“He probably did it,” the brother, who lives in West Virginia, is quoted in the petition as having said when he learned why a police force in Canada wanted his DNA. While the brothers agreed to provide DNA samples, they did not consent to their brother’s remains being exhumed because their parents are buried next to their brother’s plot. In a letter filed in court in an effort to prevent the exhumation, the brothers argued their DNA samples should have been enough evidence to provide closure to Prior’s family.Article content
