The injured man in his 40s was rushed to St James's Hospital to be treated for his injuries

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a serious assault left a man in his 40s in hospital with severe injuries.

The alleged assault occurred on Cook Street in Dublin 8 at around 6.15pm on Wednesday evening last week, June 21. The injured man in his 40s was rushed to St James's Hospital to be treated for his injuries. He is described a being in a critical condition, according to gardaí.In a statement, they said: "Gardaí at Kevin Street Garda station are investigating a serious assault which occurred on Cook Street, Dublin 8 on Wednesday evening 21st June, 2023 at approximately 6.15p.m.

"A man, aged in his late 40s, was removed from the scene to St. James's Hospital to be treated for injuries. He remains in critical condition.""Any road users and pedestrians who may have camera footage and were in the area of Cook Street, Dublin 8 between 6pm and 6.30pm on the evening of Wednesday 21st June, 2023 are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí," they said.
