A 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged over the alleged sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman at a Port Macquarie Beach on the New South Wales mid-north coast last week.
Police said the woman was on Stewart Street at about 8:30pm on August 16, when she was approached by a man she did not know.The Matildas' FIFA Women's World Cup semi-final against England was being broadcast at the nearby Town Beach Amphitheatre at the time. After investigations by the Mid North Coast Police District and the state's sex crimes squad, a man was arrested at a Port Macquarie address at about 5:15pm on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old was taken to Port Macquarie Police Station and charged with sexual intercourse without consent, and sexually touching another person without consent.
