Police have released more details about Monday incident north of the Sault; 62-year-old charged with uttering threats, breach of probation after finally surrendering
Police have released further details about an incident north of the Sault on Monday that drew a heavy police presence and in which one person has now been charged.Police now say the night before, shortly after 8:45 p.m., they had responded to a neighbour dispute.
The accused was making hand gestures towards a neighbour and loitering in front of the complainant's residence, police say. While en route to the scene officers were made aware that the accused called the OPP Communication Centre yelling and swearing at the call taker."Subsequently after interaction with police, the accused barricaded himself in his residence," police said.Shortly after 9:30 p.m., Sault Ste Marie OPP received assistance from the OPP's Critical Incident Command, the Emergency Response Team, the Tactics and Rescue Unit, Northeast Canine Unit, and crisis negotiators.
After extensive negotiations, on July 4 shorty after 1 p.m., the accused surrendered without incident and was arrested, police said.John Wigle, 62, of Aweres Township has been charged with:None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
