Kemp was tried, convicted and sentenced to death in 2009 for the Nov. 14, 1978, murder of Armida Wiltsey. It was the second death sentence for Kemp, who was convicted of two rapes and of raping and murdering a Los Angeles nurse in the 1950s. In 1972, his first death sentence was commuted to life in prison when the California Supreme Court ruled the death penalty unconstitutional.Wiltsey was found in brush near a jogging trail. She had been strangled and had evidence of binding on her wrists.
