A man has been arrested after an elderly woman was allegedly injured by an e-scooter outside the Melbourne Cricket Ground last week. Jessie Hatch, 81, was walking towards Jolimont railway station after an AFL game when she was confronted by a man riding a scooter about 11pm on Friday, May 3. The man told the avid Collingwood supporter to move off the path but she refused, telling him the footpath was not meant for vehicles.
The rider allegedly did not stop to assist Hatch, while a passerby gave chase but was unsuccessful. Hatch was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. After a public appeal including CCTV images of the alleged offender, police on Wednesday arrested a 46-year-old man in Thomastown. He is assisting the police investigation into the incident. As of Tuesday, Hatch remains in hospital with five stitches in her hand.
