A man has been airlifted to hospital with serious burns to his face and body after a barbecue mishap in Berkeley Vale. 7NEWS
The 58-year-old Berkeley Vale man was cooking steak on the rear patio of his Kingsford Smith Drive home just before 7pm last night when the accident occurred, according to Fire and Rescue New South Wales .Watch the latest news and stream for free on“When he turned up the gas on the 9kg LPG bottle, the hose detached, allowing gas to escape and ignite,” it said.
FRNSW said the man suffered serious burns to his face and upper body.Emergency services rushed to the scene where firefighters placed the victim under a shower until paramedics arrived.He was then airlifted to hospital in a medical helicopter for further treatment. A Central Coast man has been seriously burnt while cooking steak on his barbecue, prompting a Summer safety warning from FRNSW.FRNSW superintendent Adam Dewberry said it was important to follow safety precautions when barbecuing. Firstly, when planning to cooking on a barbecue, it is crucial to comply with any fire restrictions that may be in place, such as total fire bans.“Service and maintain your barbecue regularly,” he said.
