KUALA LUMPUR: The Magistrate’s Court here fined a Universiti Malaya student RM5,000 for intentionally insulting a former vice-chancellor with intent to provoke a breach of the peace at the university’s 59th convocation four years ago. Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan meted out the fine to Wong Yan Ke (pic), 27, after finding that the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubts against the prosecution’s case at the end of the defence case.

Speaking to The Straits Times, Mahdi’s sister, Nor Aini, said her younger brother was on morphine for three weeks after the surgery to manage his pain.“The pain is not there anymore, but the doctor said it will take three to six months to see if he can stand up and walk,” said Aini, 30, who also works at Meokja.
“My company was looking for a chef and I told my bosses about him. They tried him out, and he seemed to be a fit, so they hired him,” she said.
