“When you’ve done this long enough, you realize nothing ever goes according to plan because other people have a say in your plan,” Redblacks general manager Shawn Burke said. “You have to take the ups and downs of it in stride and move on quick. We knew we were going to be less active in this free agency. We did a lot of our legwork beforehand. We feel we’ve put our team in a better opportunity to compete in 2023.
Milanovic-Litre, 28, comes in after playing for Edmonton in 2022. The six-foot, 229-pounder rushed for 241 yards and also had 89 receiving yards. The Redblacks also chased running back Wes Hills, who instead signed in the USFL.Article content “Before we signed Drew, we gave Hunter a heads-up what was happening,” Burke said. “He wanted to see what was on the market. He had opportunities to go elsewhere, but he wanted to be back here. He might have a different role, but he’s a valuable piece. You don’t expect to go through a season with all your guys healthy for 18 games.”Article content
Asked about bringing back Kanneh and Baltimore, Burke said: “Sometimes players enter free agency to see what’s out there. I always felt there was a strong want to on both sides to get a deal done, if it worked for both sides. Both of them bring experience on the back end and will come in and compete for spots on our team. We’ll have competition at most spots on our football club. That was one of the things discussed with some of our guys we re-signed: Nothing’s going to be given to you.
