The Quad County Whitecaps will host the inaugural Atlantic Under-13 ‘AAA’ Female Hockey Championship this weekend at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre in Port Hawkesbury. Quad County, which includes players from the Strait Richmond, Antigonish, Canso and Cape Breton West minor hockey associations, will open the tournament against the Storm at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. During the regular season, Quad County finished in fourth place in the six-team provincial league with a 10-5-4 record, two points behind the Metro West Force Citadels, who played two more games than them, for third place.

“Female hockey is a mental game, and I really work on their confidence as individual players and as a team. There’s going to be some nerves, but we’ll keep them focused on the task at hand.”Location: Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre, Port Hawkesbury “It’s very exciting for our Whitecaps association to be able to showcase the talent and this type of hockey to the Cape Breton fans,” he said. “It’s the first time this age group has had an Atlantic tournament, and for the community to be able to see high-level female hockey, I think it’s great for everyone.”
