Mahfuz to seek double the defamation damages from Sanusi FMTNews
Pakatan Harapan’s Kedah chairman, Mahfuz Omar, said Sanusi Md Nor of PAS had yet to settle the damages awarded by the court.
PETALING JAYA: Kedah Pakatan Harapan chairman Mahfuz Omar said that he plans to seek double the amount of defamation damages which had been awarded against Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Md Nor .The damages were awarded earlier this month by the Court of Appeal, which raised the RM50,000 damages awarded by the High Court to RM120,000.
Mahfuz had sued Sanusi in 2019, over a post made by Sanusi linking Mahfuz, then MP for Pokok Sena, to the opening of a Sports Toto outlet in the area. The High Court had upheld the suit and ordered Sanusi to pay damages. His appeal to the Court of Appeal to set aside the High Court decision was dismissed.
Mahfuz said Sanusi has yet to settle the payment, despite the fact that the court ordered the damages be paid within 14 days from the day of the judgement, Sinar Harian reported.
