The group called on university administrators to apologize for giving Gignac a stage during the school’s welcome week, and for failing to intervene after student union officials raised concern during his Sept. 7 performance.“Allowing such an inappropriate and offensive performance to occur sends a distressing message that the institution is not committed to creating an environment that prioritizes consent and respect on our campus,” the students union charged.

He invited students who may be distressed by what they experienced during the show to use the support services available on campus.According to his website, Gignac started his “journey to success” in a veterinary clinic where he specialized in working with exotic animals and reptiles. In 2000, he bought a magic shop and began to perform hundreds of shows each year.
