Dalhousie players celebrate the championship point as the Tigers defeated the Acadia Axewomen 3-2 to win their 10th consecutive AUS women's volleyball title on Saturday night at Dalplex.Lucy Glen-Carter dropped to her knees when her back-row attack found the floor to give the Dalhousie Tigers their 10th consecutive AUS women’s volleyball championship on Saturday night.
The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but the Axewomen, behind a relentless defence led by libero Rebecca Dorsey, wouldn’t give in. Dorsey, a first-team conference all-star, was sensational with 25 digs, many of them off Glen-Carter blasts.Glen-Carter said there was no panic as the Tigers regrouped prior to the deciding set.
The Tigers pulled away in set 5 with a late four-point run that included a huge solo block by rookie Paris Stewart, for a 12-9 lead they wouldn’t surrender. The Tigers entered the playoffs with assistant coach Tessa Bulmer at the helm. Rick Scott, who was in his 15th year with Tigers, was placed on leave prior to the playoffs. Dalhousie officials did not want to discuss Scott's absence from the court.
