London remains the world's most popular travel destination, while Asia-Pacific destinations experience strong post-pandemic recovery. Shanghai leads in business travel, while the Philippines sees increased tourism revenue but struggles with arrivals.
London remained the top destination for global travelers in 2024, according to ForwardKeys. Bangkok and Tokyo were strong contenders. In Asia-Pacific, destinations showed strong post-Covid recovery. Beijing and Guangzhou were top performers, with Nha Trang, Shanghai, and Hong Kong also seeing impressive growth. Seoul ranked 10th with a 32% increase in popularity, driven by both leisure and business travel.
Shanghai also led the global business travel sector, surging by 63%, followed by Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and Tokyo. While the Philippines saw a 41% increase in visitor receipts, international arrivals remained below target. The Department of Tourism (DOT) highlighted that the weak peso benefited foreign tourists, and that travelers spent an average of $2,073 per capita and stayed for 11 nights. The DOT also noted that 70% of tourists were repeat visitors
