DEOpinion 'The Sabah government should get rid of all “napoleons” ASAP so that Sabahans can taste the fruits of Hajiji’s economic transformation.' - Datuk John Lo

Confronting challenges head on in Sabah

These problems have been accumulating and ignored over 30 plus years. They have resolved or in the process of resolving them. [a] State/Federal heavily tilted unequal relationship. [b] Issuance authority of fishing licences. [c] Greatly improved of Sabah’s unsatisfactory revenue stream. [d] Regain of authority for generation of power [Sabah Energy Commission]. [e] Ragain oil and gas rights/concessions from Petronas. [f] Great improvements in State revenues and reserves.

The problem of “LITTLE NAPOLEONS” is very prevalent and serious. It should be resolutely removed ASAP. The effectiveness of many parts of the delivery system is highly questionable. Hajiji and Masidi have publicly said that only 21.61% of the 2023 projects for Sabah have been implemented so far. It is already beginning of July! August is just round the corner! Can the remaining budget be implemented? Most unlikely.
