The park next to the South Riverdale Community Health Centre on on Queen St. E. acts as open\u002Dair drug market
The area around the health centre is a nice and up-and-coming neighbourhood with homes selling for an average of $1.2 to $1.3 million, a bit above the asking price. One realtor described the area as the kind of neighbourhood that attracts young families and bidding wars.A man in need of some help was seen crossing the street near the centre, two packs of Mr. Noodles in one hand, a bong and meth pipe in the other.
The SRCHC is definitely serving the drug addicts who have come to rely on them, but whether it is serving the wider community is another matter.Ontario Premier Doug Ford has said he has asked for a review of this particular centre in light of the shooting and what he has since heard from residents. The advocates who pushed for such centres promised that it would take care of many of the problems associated with opioid use, including needles in parks and overdoses – they have taken care of either.
What they have done is aided and abetted people with addictions issues while also acting as a safe place for drug dealers to take advantage of vulnerable people.
