LILLEY: Johnston appears confused, downplays relationship with PM at committee

Prime minister\u0027s special rapporteur has trouble with questions about his own report into China\u0027s interference at committee.

Since Johnston’s report came out on May 23, he’s denied being close to Trudeau and called it a “so-called friendship.” That prompted Conservative MP and former Crown prosecutor Larry Brock to ask the obvious question.Johnston’s answer downplayed any friendship and went against everything he and Trudeau had said in the media between when he was appointed governor general by prime minister Stephen Harper in 2010 and when he stepped down in 2017..

Johnston is 81 years old, he’s been friends with Iacobucci since about 1966 and this is the man he hires to clear him of being too friendly to the PM? It’s unbelievable that Johnston, facing an accusation that he was too friendly with the person giving him a job to investigate the government, hired someone he was even closer to than Trudeau.
