LILLEY: It's time for mask mandates to end at Ontario hospitals Via brianlilley
There is no provincial requirement for hospital patients or visitors to mask up; it’s up to each individual hospital to make their own decisions. In mid-April, several hospitals in southwestern Ontario dropped their mask requirements and on April 24, SickKids Hospital in Toronto dropped their requirement.
“We have to plan to gradually and safely go back to normal, while we continue to focus on mitigating risk to vulnerable patients,” Haddad said. “This mask mandate for hospitals doesn’t make sense anymore,” he said. “They don’t ask people to wear gloves or wash their hands. As a personal thing, I decided that I would not wear a mask when there is no reason.”Article content
Sunnybrook sent a statement saying that they can’t comment on any specific cases but that, “the safety and well-being of our patients, staff and visitors is our top priority.” That includes a mask-wearing policy that the hospital says is clearly communicated to everyone who enters.
