The Integrity Commissioner\u0027s report is highly critical of the Ford government but also dispels myths that this was about rewarding friends.
At least four times in his report, Wake points out that claims made by NDP Leader Marit Stiles in the affidavit she filed requesting this investigation were not true.
“I cannot find that political donations were the basis for the decision to remove lands from the Greenbelt. Accordingly, I find there was an objective basis for the decision, namely to address the housing crisis,” Wake wrote at paragraph 569 of his report.Article content In two instances, Stiles claimed that land was purchased just before the changes were made and this was the sign of an obvious tip-off. She pointed to land in King Township owned by the Rice Group and land in Vaughan known as Block 41, owned by TACC Group.
“He told me, and I accept, that if he had known the lands would be removed from the Greenbelt so soon, he would have funded the purchase himself,” Wake wrote.Article contentAs for the TACC lands in Vaughan, Stiles had relied on shoddy reporting by the Globe and Mail that got several facts wrong including how the purchase was financed that made things look suspicious.
