Premier Doug Ford was critical of Mississauga\u0027s Bonnie Crombie over battle with province on development charges but Ford is right.
At the end of a news conference in Brampton, Ford paused after questions from reporters to start a rant against the mayor of Canada’s sixth-largest city. Crombie’s name has been floated several times as a possible contender to be the next leader of the Ontario Liberal Party at Queen’s Park. Between 2013 and 2019, Mississauga collected an average of $34.4 million a year in development charges, but spent just $25.5 million. Between 2015 and 2019, the city collected an average of $17.5 million per year in parkland fees, but spent just an average of $9.2 million per year.
