“There is a need to increase supply of health-care professionals in Canada, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists and technologists. These shortages are particularly acute in some parts of the country,”So now, the premiers will gather with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to try to find a new way to fix health care. The best that we can hope for is that they’re more imaginative than the leaders in 2004 were.
By the time it came up for renewal in 2014, the Harper government was willing to let provinces innovate but wasn’t willing to put up big increases in funding and provinces weren’t looking to change the system, especially not with big increases in funding.Article content Some want the system to be all about government delivering health services but whether we are talking about your family doctor, the pharmacy that gives you the flu shot, or the lab that provides your bloodwork or X-ray, our system is a mix. Anyone claiming that we haven’t always had a mix of public and private delivery within a public insurance system is lying to you.
