The Liberals are hoping to pass legislation implementing a new free trade deal with Ukraine by the end of the year. International Trade Minister Mary Ng on Tuesday introduced the implementation bill for a revised Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement , which was signed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy last month in Ottawa.

Negotiations for the new deal began in January 2022, just before the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The original trade deal started in 2017. It eliminated 86 per cent of the tariffs on Canadian merchandise goods.
