Victorian Liberal MPs will meet at 9.30am to expel rebel MP Moira Deeming from the parliamentary party room.

The Western Metropolitan Region MP is widely expected to be expelled from the party room after she told the leadership team last week she intended to sue for defamation and launch legal proceedings to challenge her nine-month suspension.

The party room ended up reaching a compromise deal to suspend Deeming for nine months, but the first-term MP believed a key component of the agreement -Michael O’Brien, Jess Wilson, Georgie Crozier and David Southwick left a Higgins 200 Club Liberal Party breakfast fundraiser at 8.20am to make their way to the party room meeting, according to a source at the event.

Upper house MP Bev McArthur, a Deeming supporter, remarked that it was a “great” day and that her vote wouldn’t be changing.Asked what she made of the defamation concerns notice Deeming sent to Pesutto yesterday, McArthur said: “[My vote] has nothing to do with the defamation action.”Former Liberal leader Matthew Guy arrives for the vote.

Liberal upper house leader Georgie Crozier said she was extremely disappointed by yesterday’s defamation letter. However, she declined to say whether she would be supporting the motion, saying that was a matter for the party room to decide.
