OTTAWA—A backbench Liberal MP from Toronto is rejecting what he calls “inaccurate and irresponsible” allegations that China helped him get elected as part of a campaign of interference in Canadian democracy.
Dong’s statement made no mention of a public inquiry into allegations of foreign interference, which some — including NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh — have called for in recent days. Neither Dong nor the Prime Minister’s Office responded to questions and an interview request from the Star on Monday morning.
