Lack of nurses mean unsafe patient ratios, further contributing to burnout and nurses leaving the profession or to practice abroad.
Community health centres provide care through a community-governed model that brings clinicians and support staff together to meet the unique needs of each community. This is a proven model. There are over 30 communities in B.C. and many more across the nation that can attest to its effectiveness. In the last 10 years over 10,000 people have died in B.C. of drug overdoses. In the months of November and December 2022 alone, the monthly average was 189. That’s an average of 6.4 per day.
