Letters to the Editor, June 4, 2023
It’s a familiar story from the Second World War era. Rosie the Riveter, and all the women, with no background or experience in the sector, who made up the majority of workers in the manufacturing sector in the U.S. and elsewhere. But here’s an aspect of this that is relevant to today’s workforce.
If the manufacturing sector could successfully operate during that war with women with no background nor training in that sector, today’s employers can surely find the workers they need from the large pool of university graduates who are unemployed, or underemployed, in the service sector. There’s a catch, though. These employers would have to train the graduates to do the work they need done. Now, there’s a novel idea.
