STORY CONTINUES BELOW THESE SALTWIRE VIDEOSThe new municipal tax rates have been published by the province and it is not pretty. It now costs virtually double for a residential house in downtown Sydney versus downtown Halifax . Most towns with tax rates as high as ours have now been dissolved.
As a matter of fact, it looks like we pay the highest tax rate except for Lockport where the tax rates are 5.410 commercial and 2.40 residential. Capped for many years while each year, the transfer grows. This year it is a whopping $2.803 billion, and that funding is sent to Nova Scotia so we are not overtaxed.
The MLAs are told by party leaders to stay away from the equalization issue because all governments in Nova Scotia are guilty of the mismanagement of this important transfer. If they were not, they would sit down and explain their actions and show us where this funding is spent in the province. They will not!
