Free plastic bags used by people to dispose of rubbish have kept HDB estates clean
Very soon it will be mandatory for customers to pay 5 cents per plastic bag when shopping at NTUC FairPrice and other outlets.The Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment, Dr Amy Khor, said in Parliament the purpose of this levy per plastic bag is to change the mindset of consumers and make Singapore eco-friendly.
When no plastic bags are readily available; there will be no guarantee of HDB common rubbish chutes being free of rubbish and food waste. This will add a burden to the workload of town council cleaners.
