The name of this province has been"Newfoundland and Labrador" since December 2001. However, successive provincial governments have failed to change the names of provincial entities under its jurisdiction.
Our provincial anthem must recognize that the name of this province has been changed. Also, it should be gender neutral, welcoming of immigrants, acceptable to believers in God, agnostics and atheists, and ideally, give a nod to people who have lived here thousands of years before us. It should not read like a hymn.Anthems are changed as circumstances change.
A change in wording will likely require a small change in the music. While I am sure others can do better, here is an example of an updated provincial anthem:When silvern voices tune its rills,At winter's stern command;When blinding storm gusts fret its shoreThis is a wind-swept land, this is a wind-swept land.Those here before must be thought of,We love thee, We love thee,Op-ed Disclaimer
